Placecard Cookie Policy

Effective date: July 14, 2026
Last updated: July 14, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Placecard (we, us, or our) uses cookies and similar technologies when you use our websites, applications, event pages, guest lookup tools, and related services (the Service).

For more information about how we process information, see our Privacy Policy.

1. What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small files or identifiers stored on a browser or device. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, pixels, tags, SDK storage, and other technologies that store or access information on a device.

2. How we use cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • operate the Service;
  • authenticate users;
  • maintain secure sessions;
  • support guest lookup flows;
  • prevent abuse, scraping, and automated requests;
  • rate-limit public guest-facing endpoints;
  • remember technical state needed for the Service to function;
  • diagnose errors and maintain security; and
  • process checkout or billing flows through service providers.

3. Strictly necessary cookies and storage

The Service currently uses cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for authentication, security, rate limiting, and core operation.

We use a guest session cookie for guest-facing event pages and guest lookup functionality.

This cookie is used to protect guest-facing endpoints and reduce scraping or automated abuse. It is not used for advertising.

Authentication and session storage

Our authentication provider, currently WorkOS AuthKit, may use cookies, local storage, or related technologies to manage sign-in, authentication sessions, and account security. Depending on configuration, refresh tokens or session information may be stored in browser storage.

Billing and checkout storage

Our billing provider, currently Polar, may use cookies or similar technologies during checkout, customer portal, payment, fraud-prevention, and subscription-management flows. Those technologies are controlled by the billing provider when you interact with its checkout or portal.

Infrastructure, hosting, and security storage

Our infrastructure providers may process request metadata or use technical mechanisms necessary to route, secure, serve, and protect the Service.

4. Analytics cookies

We do not currently use optional analytics cookies such as Google Analytics, PostHog, Hotjar, FullStory, or similar analytics tools in the Service.

If we add analytics tools later, we will update this Cookie Policy and, where required, ask for consent before using non-essential analytics cookies.

5. Advertising and marketing cookies

We do not currently use advertising pixels, retargeting cookies, or cross-context behavioral advertising cookies.

If we add marketing or advertising technologies later, we will update this Cookie Policy and provide any consent or opt-out choices required by applicable law.

6. Email technologies

Emails we send may include standard delivery or rendering information processed by our email provider, currently Resend. We use email delivery information to send service-related messages, diagnose delivery issues, track bounces or complaints, and prevent abuse.

7. Managing cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Browser controls may allow you to delete cookies, block cookies, or receive alerts when cookies are set.

Blocking strictly necessary cookies or authentication storage may prevent parts of the Service from working, including login, checkout, guest lookup, abuse prevention, or published event features.

Because the Service currently uses cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for security, authentication, rate limiting, and operation, we do not currently present a cookie consent banner for optional analytics or marketing cookies.

If we add non-essential analytics, advertising, or marketing cookies, we will update the Service to request consent or provide other choices where required.

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted with a new effective date or last updated date.
